Government Relations
As the nation’s largest association dedicated to empowering the Hispanic community in STEM, SHPE provides students and professionals with access to early STEM education and workforce development opportunities through its comprehensive programming.
With over 20,000 members nationwide and five decades of experience, SHPE is committed to cultivating a pipeline of highly valued and influential innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. By advancing Hispanic talent across all STEM sectors, SHPE plays a pivotal role in leveraging the rapid growth of the Hispanic community to address the nation’s critical STEM workforce challenges.
Through its Government Relations initiatives, SHPE offers its expertise and insights drawn from its membership to inform thoughtful policy recommendations. These efforts aim to educate policymakers and guide the development and implementation of legislation that bridges the gap between Hispanics and STEM opportunities, fostering a more diverse and dynamic STEM workforce.


















POLICY PRIORITIES

- SHPE supports policies to increase the number of Hispanic men and women in engineering to promote economic empowerment and sustainability in their community.
- SHPE supports increased federal funding for initiatives aimed at boosting the number of Latino students who pursue STEM education and career paths, particularly engineering.
- SHPE supports increased targeted funding for Hispanic Serving Institutions and other colleges and universities that are focused on STEM opportunities for Hispanic students.
